Sportsmen Concerned About the Front

The following message just came in from Group One's and Montana Wildlife Federation (MWF)'s Ben Lamb, highlighting his successful hunt in having several parcels pulled from the Federal land leasing pool, thereby preserving those parcels for hunting and fishing access and open space.

Way to go, "Big Ben"...keep this up and you will begin to give Group One a good name...well, maybe, that is!!

We recieved word a short time ago that the three lease parcels we were concerned about along the Rocky Mountain Front have been pulled from the Land Boards meeting, and will not be leased. This has caused significant heartburn for the Minerals Division at DNRC as they do not believe that they can pull those leases, yet some one higher up has made it happen. I am tracking down the information right now, and will report more when I have all the info.

The end product however, is that MWF has positively influenced the decision to develop a big piece of the heart of Montana. Well done to all who wrote in, and made cBlogger: Montana Extravaganza 2008 - Edit Post "Sportsmen Concerned About the Front"omments. Hunters and anglers led this effort, and the results were quick, and decisive.

We will soon be working with FWP and DNRC to draft new rules for state lands along the Front that focus on permanent protection of the wildlife and wildlife habitat.

Thanks again, this is a big victory for wildlife, and for MWF.
