Particularly for those hearty souls in Group One, who finish their fishing three weeks from this very Sunday evening, the current question before the Extravaganza house is "Just When ARE the waters going to clear up??"
As you can see from the updated flow chart ( posted just below the weather button on Der Blog www.montanaextravaganza2008.blogspot.com ), water is still rushing down Montana's rivers at legendary rates. This is a good thing, however, for, as one respected (and aged and, therefore, "sage") Helena guide emailed me today, "The fish are getting a well deserved break, and the steams are being churned up for a much needed water imposed stratification bug life change over bottom scouring tune up that can only lead to good things." [how about that for a mouthful of sage?!?--thanks, Mokey...I know you fish Sage rods!].
The key to the answer to this (and all other Extravaganza related questions) lies quietly tucked away on Der Blog (see address above). Just navigate over to Der Blog and then click on the weather button...not only will that pop up screen give you the current weather and near forecast conditions, but just beneath that soon to be more relevant information is a graph (not too much unlike our flow chart) that gives you a 14 day Missoula temperature forecast.
Any temperature in Missoula over 65 degrees is now a good one for us right now, and, right at 14 days out (at the advent of the week of the arrival of Group One) the weather is forecast to zip up to 80 degrees for several days. My bet is that this solid up tick should put an exclamation point on the runoff for record setting 2008, making the very first day of clear water and excellent fishing (er, let's see...) oh, yes, June 21, 2008, coincidentally the first day of fishing for Group One!!
