Extravagant Fisherfolk:
The rivers here in Montana, they continue to rage in a record, unabated fashion (see discharge report just below the weather button on Der Blog).
This week, temperatures are predicted to be in the 80's all week, which should be enough to encourage all of the yet-mountain-held snow pack (which is still substantial), and the question before the house is whether the local rivers will calm down for decent fishing prospect for Group One. (There is a small, but growing, local school of thought that just the fear of the onslaught of the ignoble Group Ones is causing all of this water-based havoc, by the way!)
In talking with our dear friends at the GH today (on more than one occasion, I might add), the rolling guide betting average as to the answer to the above question one way or the other is continuing to run at a fifty-fifty pace—i.e., no one is really sure. One thing that we did decide this morning, however, is that this Thursday morning, in consultation with the moon, the stars, the crystals and, most importantly, head guide and outfitter Drew Miller, we will make the "To Mo, or Not to Mo" decision.
If, on Thursday, the decision is made "to Mo," the guides will be overnighting (it is a 2 1/2 trek one way)—so that decision, if made, will be a two-day irrevocable one. If the decision is "Not to Mo" then we all will understand that we will be the first folks to fish local waters with a decent chance of hitting home runs (that's really "a lot of fish" to you rookies out there) but also with the risk that we may strike out (continuing in a baseball analogical frame of reference) with the footnote that if the first day's fishing is really a bust, then we have the option to Mo on day two.
Hence, the backdrop and inside scoop on the yet-pending question of "To Mo, or Not to Mo"!!
Meanwhile the runoff runs on...and on...and on...
