Extravaganzers One and All:
Bid greetings to the six lucky Missoula area high school budding cinematographers who are going to be filming Extravaganza 2008!!
Pictured above are first row winners Jennifer Bell (14) and Hayden Patrick Murray (14), backed up by Thane Morin (14), Jordan English (14), Angela Morasco (17) and Caleb Moore (17). All six will be participants in a scholarship film camp we have co-sponsored with the International Wildlife Film Festival (whose annual Festival begins right here in Missoula on May 10th!). Their mission, should they decide to accept it (and they formally have), is to film, in high definition, Extravaganza 2008 using the following text from Tom McGuane's The Longest Silence...A Life In Fishing as a guide post:
"We have reached the time in the life of the planet, and humanity's demands upon it, when every fisherman will have to be a riverkeeper, a steward of the marine shallows, a watchman on the high seas. We are beyond having to put back what we have taken out. We must make holy war on the enemies of acquatic life as we have against gillnetters, polluters, and drainers of wetlands. Otherwise, as you have already learned, these creatures will continue to disappear at an accelerating rate. We will lose as much as we have lost already and there will be next to nothing...."READY ON THE SET...LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!!
Filming begins on Tuesday, June 24th with the arrival of Group Two with the final result(s) to be previewed at the awards night for Group Four and publicly displayed on the Fourth of July in conjunction with our annual salute to our guides (featuring, as in the past, der pig roast and the Sixth Annual Rock Creek Casting Competition). Let the good times roll folks and, Group Twoers, be sure to smile on cue with that netted fish when any of these mighty six so dictate!
