Extravagant Ones:
Right on schedule, with snow now becoming more and more of an infrequent event in the mountains surrounding Missoula, and with daytime temperature highs now starting to creep up into the 60's and 70's (those sure were great years for us, weren't they, fellow baby boomers?!?), as shown on the Rock Creek Discharge Chart (our barometer chart), Montana water flows are now officially UP, and, in fishspeak parlance, all of Missoula's fishable rivers are now "blown out" (i.e., unfishable) and will remain so until the runoff subsides and water clarity returns.
In the ensuing weeks between now and June 20th (Extravaganza 2008's Opening Day), look for the red line on the discharge chart to increasingly rise and, in my opinion, "go off the chart" (literally) at over 2500 cfs ("cubic feet per second") right around June 1st, and, thereafter, begin to subside right around June 15th down to (my guess) +/- 1500 cfs on Opening Day—creating Montana's absolute prime time fishing conditions.
