The snow she keeps a-fallin' here in chilly Rock Creek, as depicted on the attached Monday morning mid-February photos just taken here at Extravaganza Central!
What a beautiful sight this is, as, not only by acclamation of the locals in these parts is this "heaviest" winter that we have had in a number of years, but the consistency of it is truly amazing. Kathy and I have been here almost a week now, and the snow(ing) simply hasn't stopped.
This bodes well for us Extravagant fisherfolk, for, by this time each year, we will have received 60-70% of all the annual snowfall that we are going to get, and, by local record keeping, the greater Missoula area is between 90-95% of season normal (you can get weekly postings of the snowfall by local valley courtesy of our own Rock Creek Protective Association at its website www.blueribboncreek.org ) [as well as postings on developments with our would-be errant subdivision at the confluence of Rock Creek and the Clark Fork--on that front, by the way, last Thursday we rejected a proposal from the developer to cut his number of 36 units in half due to (a) his still fleeting request not to have to fill his ill-begotten pond and (b) the proximity of home sites to our best friend, his neighbor--the nesting bald eagle that we have named "Freedom"].
You know the Extravaganza is getting close when, on a fireside Sunday evening as last night, you get a call from Dan Shepherd, managing partner of your favorite outfitter, the Grizzly Hackle, who "just wants to go over the schedule for the Extravaganza and make sure that all of the things that you have planned for your guests are taken care of." Yes, it is (still) snowing here this Monday morning in Paradise--each of the (literally) billions of unique snowflakes being a Valentine of sorts to each and every one of us; and, it a bit, Your Hostess With The Mostess and I will saunter (slide?) our way into town, as it seems that there ARE a few Extravaganza-related items that require our attention there, and neither rain, sleet, nor (prodigious) snow will keep us for that privileged journey.
